Speciality chemical companies form membership in what is currently a diverse market. Some focus on one or two value chains within this market, while others concentrate on producing multiple chains. One of the markets served by specialty companies in this industry is additives.
The Purpose of Specialty Chemical Additives
The production of specialty chemical additives is directed specifically towards achieving a certain goal. Rather than producing the intended product in mass amounts, the company processes it in smaller batches. Batch processing is intended to provide the right amount and type of a specific additive formulation.
The special batch may be composed of a single chemical solution. It may also be more complex. In either case, it will reflect the intended application required by the customer. For speciality chemical companies this could meet one of several goals. Among them is the development of additives to address any of the following issues:
- Wear
- Friction
- Lubrication
- Corrosion
- Oxidization
- Foam
- Emulsion
Specialty chemical additives are designed to be added to a base oil to accomplish some or all of these problems that negatively impact engines and related mechanisms. They do so in one of three ways:
- Imparting properties to a base oil
- Enhancing existing properties in a base oil
- Suppressing undesirable properties in a base oil
Specialty Chemical Companies
While some companies find a generic solution acceptable, others do not. They rely on speciality chemical companies. They require them to provide refined and highly specialized specialty chemical additives to provide the best solution possible.
