A Quick Review Of Common And Specialized PVC Valves

One of the unique things about FlexPVC is that our specialization with parts and components for PVC fabrication, repairs and installation allows us to carry a truly amazing inventory of both common as well as specialty parts.

Sometimes, with all the options, it can be a bit overwhelming for the do-it-yourselfer to find just the right part, particularly when it comes to PVC valves. To make matters even more interesting, there may actually be a valve available that is a better fit for your needs, so having an overview of the pros and cons of each design can be very helpful with your next project.

*   Check Valves – Also known as non-return valves or one direction valves, these are ideal to prevent any type of backflow through a system. They are often associated with pumps and other systems where it is important to ensure liquid volume through the system is constant.

*   Union Ball Valves – there are union valves and true union valves, and there is a difference. With a true union ball valve there a connection on both sides of the valve, allowing the valve to be removed for repair or replacing. A union valve will have the union on just one side of the valve. These can be either threaded or slip for ease of use.

*   Ball Valves – these are typically slip socket but they can also have the female pipe thread or FPT to attach easily. The benefit of any type of ball valve is that it offers the option for setting the flow as needed using the manual setting through the handle, although the ball is slightly smaller than the pipe, meaning this won’t be true full flow. These are often used on water lines and larger lines into pools and water features or for irrigation.

*   Gate Valves – gate valves and blade valves are actually some of the original valve designs. They offer a full flow since the blade, or the gate is can be completely lifted out of the pipe, allowing for full flow through the pipe. These are often used in large aquarium setups and industrial applications where very precise volume through the system is required.

*   90 degree Valves – these unique PVC valves allow the flow of the liquid through the pipe and the valve to be converted from a straight through flow like the other valves, to actually turning a 90 degree corner. They are typically used in swimming pools and hot tubs, but they may be used for other applications as well.

We also provide specialized PVC valves including three way flow diverter valves, barb valves and spa drain valves to name just a few. Give us a call or visit us online if you have any questions, we are always happy to offer suggestions and help.
