The History Of Villiger Cigars

One of the fascinating things about cigars and cigar brands around the world is the amazing history that is behind some of the iconic brand names. Different companies have started in different countries, but they all have moved from smaller, family types of hand-rolled cigars to international brands that are recognized for their quality, consistently great products and their commitment to providing their customers with the ideal cigar.

The brand of Villiger Cigars got its unlikely start in a very small town in Switzerland. Not known for cigar or tobacco production, the small area around Pfeffikon was home to Jean and Louise Villiger in 1888 when they first began producing cigars from their home.

Unlike many companies of the time, after Jean’s death in 1902, Mrs. Villiger continued on with the production of cigars until Max and Hans Villiger take over the company in 1918. The company continues to expand and market their Villiger cigars to become a leader in the market.

The Move to Cuban Tobacco

A big change in the company occurred in the early 1950s when Heinrich Villiger assumes control and focuses production on the use of Cuban tobacco. It was this decision that propelled the company into the forefront of cigar producers around the world.

It also leads the company to market its Villiger cigars around the world including in the Caribbean, Indonesia, France, the United States as well as in Brazil. As the company has expanded, they have opened up their own distribution locations, providing a full range of their products for consumers around the world.

There are many different options in Villiger cigars. They include a range of sizes, shapes, and blends in tobaccos from Cuba and around the world. The company brand includes international cigars and various flavors including expresso, vanilla, cherry, and honey as well as their own brand of mini filtered cigars.
