In a few states, marijuana has now been legalized for personal use, while in a much larger number of states it is available by prescription to treat many very challenging health conditions.
As the need for quality medical marijuana increases, growers are becoming increasingly specialized in maintaining crops with consistency and optimal production. Through research and development of different varieties, specific traits and growth patterns can be achieved, maximizing yield and even speeding up the maturity process of the plants for faster processing.
While the amount of light the plants are exposed to is critical, temperature and the use of a cannabis humidifier is equally important. The humidity and the temperature need to be considered together as they are related.
Temperature and Humidity
Air at any temperature can only hold so much moisture. The colder it is, the lower the humidity level as the cold air cannot hold the same amount of moisture (humidity) as hot air.
However, with any type of plant, maximum humidity is not ideal throughout all parts of the growth and flowering of the plant. This is not the same as moisture in the soil that is taken up by the roots, but moisture in the air will help with overall plant growth, mold control and even help to eliminate some pests.
Control Options
Ideally, a cannabis humidifier with temperature control needs to be programmable or ease to adjust manually. This will be important throughout the growth stages. As a general guideline consider the following humidity ranges:
* Seedlings – up to 70% humidity but not lower than 65% for most varieties
* Growth period – decrease humidity at about 5% per week until 40% humidity to encourage root growth
* Flowering – critical to maintaining humidity at 40-50%
* End or Late Flowering – drop the humidity to 30-40%
With the cannabis humidifier in place as an automatic system, control is easy, efficient and effective. Remember, the temperature will also cool in the flowering and late flowering stages, and this should also be automatically controlled for the best outcome.
